| Q: Do you have any tips to get my nutrition back on track after the Holidays? A: The average person overfeeds herself to the tune of 10,000+ calories over the Holiday season. That’s equivalent to eight pints of Ben & Jerry’s, seventeen slices of cheesecake, or twenty Quarter Pounders with cheese. Here’s what I recommend to get back into your pre-holiday form: • Dispose of the evidence. Throw out cookies, candies, and other leftover sweets. And since you’re at it, get rid of sodas, crackers and other boxed foods that are high in calories, but low in nutrients. If you don’t want to waste, make a donation to a local shelter or food pantry. Return to drinking alcohol in moderation, if at all. • Join a sports or fitness group that you know you’ll enjoy. There are co-ed softball teams, dance classes, tennis lessons, and many other fun and challenging activities to choose from. • Team up with friends and neighbors. You are in the majority, and chances are there are others around you also trying to get back on track. Set, and keep, workout dates. • Create new habits to benefit you next year. If you begin NOW to eat smarter and add physical activity to your daily life, you will be ahead of the game for next year’s resolution! |
